Mystery sabre. Who has seen another? French-influenced, probably Philadelphia c. 1800-1830

ITEM #: E-13

PRICE: nfs

Description:

Bright 27 ½ x 1 ¼ inch blade has seen much sharpening, engraved with generic sun, crescent moon, cloud and stars on both sides of the third of the blade nearest the hilt.  The sharpening, since well aged, shows it was carried by someone who expected to give it serious use.  Single copper wire in finger grooves of brown to amber horn grip.  The eagle head makes this a true ‘bird-pommel.’  Scabbard is black leather with iron mounts, including unusual faceted eyes that receive the suspension rings.  100% original and untouched condition.  Please contact us if you know of a similar example.
