French & Indian War Period Boston silver-hilt converted to Revolutionary War Period officer's hanger. Scabbard.

PRICE: $5,000.00

Description:

Unique example of frugal New England second-generation adaptation of a French and Indian War period Boston silver-hilt.  Originally, this was a small sword, most likely with straight colichemarde blade, made in Boston c. 1750.  Jonathan Trace, authority on American silver, has confirmed this origin (no marks remain). Hilt resembles the signed work of Zachariah Brigden (1734-1787) featured in Bulletin of American Society of Arms Collectors, John Hamilton, reprinted in their Book of Edged Weapons, p. 17-23.
