Minuteman cartridge box, converted from hunting bag. American, Revolutionary War Period.
ITEM #: A-02
An inserted wood block transformed this civilian hunting pouch into military cartridge box, similar to one in Neumann’s Battle Weapons, top of page 29.It is well known that Washington had a surfeit of riflemen at Boston and wanted to change them into musket-men, and it has been stated that these transformed pouches/boxes are the result. These boxes are found in the Boston area, and we have termed them “Siege of Boston” boxes. These cartridge boxes normally command a five-figure price, but because of leather loss at one corner, this one is a bargain at only $3,5000.
